What Can't You Eat Paleo Foods?

gordon ramsay cooking tips

You might be curious about the Paleo diet and what you can eat. These are the most common foods you should avoid if you want to live a healthier lifestyle. Common additives include aspartame, calcium sorbate, monosodium glutamate (MSG), nitrates, potassium bromate, saccharin, artificial sweeteners, and GMOs.

Processed foods

The majority of processed foods can't be found in the natural world. They are often manufactured in a lab and loaded with artificial ingredients or preservatives. They lack essential nutrients, fibre, and protein. Paleo-followers will avoid processed foods. So what foods should you be avoiding? You can read on to learn more about some foods you should not eat when following a paleo lifestyle.

Refined sugars

Refined sugars can't be consumed on a Paleo diet, and that means avoiding processed, refined, and table-top sugars. These products contain a lot of additives, which are not good for your health. However, you can eat refined sugars in moderation, such as in small amounts. Ezekiel bread, which consists of grains, legumes and milk, is another option.

Phytic acid in grains

unique cooking techniques

Phytic acid, a compound found in plants and grains, can interfere with our bodies' ability absorb minerals. This is especially true in countries that have low levels of vitamin A or iron. Paleo isn't completely against phytic Acid. There are ways to minimize its effect. Pre-soaking grains can help, as can cooking legumes for longer times. This question is not a good or bad one.

Vegetable oils

Vegetable oil is a common ingredient in modern cooking. But, are they good for your health? These oils contain both omega-3 fatty acid and polyunsaturated fatty acids that are not healthy for Paleo. Even though vegetable oils are organically sourced and cold-pressed they still contain unhealthy polyunsaturated fatty acids that can be harmful to your health. Fortunately, there are ways to substitute these oils in your cooking without compromising your diet.

Fruits

Apples are one of the most common foods on the paleo diet, and are considered a true staple. Apples are high in calories but very nutritious. An average-sized apple contains about 10 grams of sugar and more than 2 grams of fiber. Bananas as well as melons aren't considered true paleo foods. These fruits can be added to your diet if your goal is to eat healthy.

Organic fruits

Paleo is a diet that emphasizes organic and non-GMO produce. Organic produce will contain fewer pesticides or trace chemicals. You can also choose items that are low in pesticide residue, such as those from the Environmental Working Group's Clean 15 list. The Environmental Working Group publishes each year lists of the cleanest and dirtiest foods.

How to make an omelet that is perfect

Omelets are one of my favorite foods to eat at breakfast. How can you make them perfectly? Many different recipes and methods have failed to work for me. So I wanted to share some tips and tricks so that you can make delicious, fluffy omelets every morn.

We should first know that eggs are very temperamental ingredients when making omelets. They must be fresh, preferably from the organic market, and be kept cold until cooking. If they are not kept cold enough, the whites won’t form properly. The yolks will also break down too quickly and become runny. This causes your omelets to look oddly colored. If you want to make omelets right away, it's best not to use eggs that are too cold.

Another tip is to separate your egg before adding it into the pan. It is important not to allow any white to mix with the yolk as this could lead to the omelet becoming curdled.

You could end up burning the bottom half of the egg if the egg is added directly to the heat source. Instead, put the egg in the microwave for 10 seconds before putting it into the pan. The microwave heat cooks your egg just right, without it becoming too soft.

Let's now talk about mixing eggs. When you mix eggs together, you want to beat them well. You can do this by turning the bowl of your mixer upside down. Then, vigorously shake the bowl. This allows the air to be whipped and the egg to be mixed thoroughly.

The fun part is now - adding the milk to the mixture. Fold the eggs in the milk mixture by first pouring half of it into the egg whites. Do not be alarmed if there are still egg streaks visible. Once the omelet flips, these streaks will disappear.

After you have done folding the eggs, heat the pan on medium heat. The oil will start to smoke. Once the oil begins to heat, add 1/4 cup butter and swirl the pan to coat it. Next, carefully open the lid and sprinkle salt into your pan. A pinch of salt will prevent your omelet from sticking in the pan.

Cover the pan once the omelet is formed and allow it to cool completely. Flip the omelet with a spatula, or flip it upside down. Cook the other side for about a minute. Serve the omelet immediately by removing it from the pan.

This recipe is best made with whole milk. However, it can also be used with skimmed milk.
