Failover Clusters - Configuring Failover Clusters

Cluster Name

You can set up a cluster name by using the agent configuration parameter ClusterName. Agent v6.5 or higher includes this configuration parameter. This configuration parameter can also be used as environment variable DD_CLUSTER_NAME. Make sure you have the correct cluster names for your cluster. Once you have given the cluster name, agents will fail over to the next one if it fails.

Configuring a failover network

First, you need to know the components of the cluster and how they relate. You can navigate through the components of a cluster using the cluster tree objects. Clicking on an object opens the cluster context menu. It will display the operations of the cluster.

First, create a Failover Manager. After creating a cluster, assign each server a role. Once you've selected a role for a cluster member, you're ready to start creating virtual machines. To add a disk to the cluster, type Get-ClusterAvailableDisk.

Failover cluster manager can be used to create clusters across all servers. You will need the Failover Cluster Manager to select the cluster nodes which you would like to connect. To skip this step, you can use the "validated NODES" option. Next, you will need to set up the IP addresses and name of the cluster. Before you enable failover clusters, validate your cluster configuration.

After the cluster validation process is complete, click Finish. This will open a confirmation screen which displays a list with the nodes selected as well as the tests that were performed. You can also view the report that contains all the results. After you have created your cluster, you must define the accesspoint that will be used to manage it. This access point must be the same IP as your cluster nodes.

The Failover Cluster Manager will display a summary of your cluster creation. You can also view detailed information about disk selection and failover cluster configuration. Windows Server 2019 users or any other version of Windows Server 2019 should ensure they have the latest Microsoft Updates installed on their Windows Server 2019 cluster Nodes.

Once the failover server software has been installed and the management interface configured, you can access the failover cluster management portal to manage the cluster and change failback settings. To simulate a hardware fault and to ensure that no services are interrupted, you can also use failback. The workload will be taken over by the remaining nodes if one of the nodes fails. This way, you can ensure that users continue to have access to your file server.

Failover Cluster Manager will launch from either the Server Manager dashboard or the Tools Menu. Failover Client Manager can be launched only after the Failover Database Validation Wizard has completed validating the cluster servers. Next, you must configure Active Directory, shared storage and DNS entries for virtual server names in the cluster.

When you first install Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, you will need to update the software that controls it. Install the vzup2date utility to do this. A shared SCSI storage drive is needed to create failover clusters from Parallels servers. Ensure that the storage device contains a /vz file partition, formatted as ext3. Ensure all servers in the failover cluster are running the latest versions of the Parallels Virtuozzo Containers software.
